Question:
Firefox 3 repeated 400 Bad Request on YouTube?

This is driving me absolutely mad. Sometimes I can watch 15 videos on YouTube, sometimes only one, before it stops working and I get nothing but "400 Bad Requests."

Bad Request

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.

Nothing YouTube loads. Embedded players, nothing. I have to restart Firefox to get YouTube to work again after I start getting 400s.

It's stopped working in the time it takes me to type a comment on a video many times before. I try to send the comment and it never sends, refresh the page and, as I expected, 400 Bad Request! Great! I've had to close and reopen Firefox some five times before YouTube would work long enough to allow me to post a comment. It's infuriating.

I have Firefox set to clear all private data when I exit, and I've gone through and deleted all cookies and all temporary files many times, and this keeps happening.

Is it just a Firefox glitch or something? I would really rather not use any other browser, but I've never had this happen on anything but Firefox.

Is there ANYTHING I can do to stop this?

IT SEEMS LIKE YOU MAY ALREADY BE FAMILIAR WITH

MY FAMOUS "BEST ANSWER", WHICH HAS LITERALLY

SAVED HUNDREDS OF YOUTUBERS.

IF YOU HAVE INDEED FOLLOWED THE ADVICE THAT IS

BELOW, THEN I AM SHOCKED. PLEASE READ ALL THE

"RATING" COMMENTS TO THESE "BEST ANSWERS" OF

MINE WHICH APPEAR AFTERWARDS:

If "your browser sent a request that this server could not understand"

plus "Size of request header field exceeds server limit", that request

is a bad or oversized cookie. (The same thing is true for "Error 400").

For some very strange reason, it seems that

most Bad Request messages involve Firefox.

Simply delete your "Cookies" and everything

will be okay. Don't worry about erasing them;

nothing bad will happen. You won't lose your

internet browser's "Bookmarks" or "Favorites".

The worst thing that could happen is you will

be asked to retype your username/password

when you return to YouTube and some other

websites -- that's all.

Just as important, you should also delete all

your "Temporary Internet Files" and "History".

Those steps will make your computer totally

"fresh" in YouTube's eyes and make loading

and buffering faster. It would also be better if

you shutdown and reboot after doing this:

Mozilla Firefox 3:

→ Tools → Clear Private Data

[x] Browsing History

[x] Download History

[x] Saved Form and Search History

[x] Cache

[x] Cookies

→ Clear Private Data Now

omg thank u thank u omg i looveee you ur the best u brought my youtube baakk!!! --

i cant thnk u enough -- god blessss uuu!!!!!! -- lol thats how much i love youtube -- thnks!

There are basically three major reasons why

you may be getting repeated occurrences of

that horrible "Bad Request": A) you have two

or more accounts or computers, and you are

often switching between them; B) somebody

might be tampering with your "cookies"; and

C) you are watching way too many videos.

Could you please transcribe the beginning of

the codes that YouTube/Firefox is giving you.

Example:

Cookie: VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=pKqnhaft7nk; __utma=27069237.3461707183281608700.1235... __utmz=27069237.1235425945.1.1.utmcsr=(d... watched_video_id_list_GalaxyYoshi=b0a5d9... watched_video_id_list_luigixd21=9b790787... stream_room=c70344b1dec4f530b3cefed39e02... watched_video_id_list_ike2142=bd2c7bbc44...

Since this is an intermittent problem, I would suspect you have a spyware problem. The 400 error is because your computer is sending a malformed packet, the header field, and it cannot process your request.

So my guess is something is trying to access your connection and causes this problem. Try running a spyware scanner like Ad-Aware or Spybot Search and Destroy, or my favorite malwarebytes. This might correct the problem.
