Can you predict if your video will go viral?

Question

I have a friend who sent me an email saying that he made a video and he said it will be going viral soon and I believed him and I checked it out,about 57 views and the vid was pretty good and a few days later he starts saying on xbox live and facebook "I found out my videos going to go viral" or "guess whos video will be going viral?" and all of my friends are saying "oh wow thats amazing now today a few friends on facebook are asking him "oh can I be in your next viral video?" so I decide to check the views,187, the vid was put on youtube a week ago and I just checked the views again and it hasnt gone up since. Is this some phoney hype hes starting or can you really find out beforehand before your vid goes viral?

For a video to truly go viral, it has to get picked up by a blog or something.



The one video I have with over 100,000 views was linked to from the drudge report.



So yeah, if a huge site links it up, you'll have some warning, but otherwise there is no way to know.

Viral simply means getting very popular very quickly. An example would be the "serious face baby" youtube video, or the music video of "I just had sex" by The Lonely Island (which has 30+ million views in around 3 weeks so the 187 views in over a week doesn't seem that much).

No, some people don't even expect a video to go viral and it does.. the ones who least expect it end up getting viral videos..lol

No. You can't know before hand if your video is going to go viral. It just happens, and usually people don't mean for their videos to become viral anyways.

you cannot predict if a video will go viral,all he is doing is trying to get attention since he knows how much people want to be famous so he's using that to get attention.In order to something to get popular it most likely has to be featured on tv and/or by big youtubers
