Subscribers don't really matter, it's mostly about your video views. Likes/favourites etc are irrelevant. You get paid per 1000 views and per click. You get paid by Google Adsense, who puts ads on your video which you share revenue (money) from, with YouTube/Adsense. You can do monetization, which is what most people do... or, if your videos get thousands of views each, you can apply to be a Partner. Partnership comes with additional features and you earn more money through that, but both plain monetization enabled and Partnership both go through Google Adsense, that's who you get paid by. If you reach over 100-150 dollars per month, they send you a check or you get it deposited into your account if you provide account details. Account takes 3 days or less, check takes 4-6 weeks to be sent. Everyone gets paid different amounts because the amount anyone gets per 1000 views or per click changes constantly based on what ads are on your videos and what those advertisers are paying to have them there. Mine is usually on about 2-4 dollars per 1000 views and like 10 cents per click.

There are two options.

The first option is to monetize your videos. This means that ads will be put on yoru videos, and you will recieve payment for this. You have to set up an adsense account. From my understanding there is no prerequisite for this but I am not sure. You do not make much money from this.

The second option is to become a Youtube partner. Youtube partners require a lot of views and a lot of subscribers. You can apply for partnership. But your channel has to be like super amazing and stuff. I believe Youtube partners make a fair deal of money, especially since this is their main source of income in a lot of cases...

Google Adsense is completely different. People who get paid on Youtube have become Youtube partners. You need a huge audience and need many subscribers. Not sure about the exact amount. You can learn more at http://www.youtube.com/partners where they can give you more information and even apply for the partner program. Hope this helps!

Using Google AdSense, and linking an AdSense account and allowing paid adds to be displayed on your channel. It's about $1.00 every 100 views more or less.
